Life a Swiffer

When we moved into our first house, my wife purchased a Swiffer vacuum. A Swiffer is a tiny battery-powered vacuum that replaces the old monster carpet cleaners that were heavier than your living room couch and harder to push than a lawnmower.

But a light vacuum means a small battery, so when my son vacuums the floor, he can't doddle or that rechargeable battery will go out before he finishes the job. As he cleans the floor you can hear the motor get lower and lower and lower until it's faintly audible.

Our life is like that. Every second another day is behind us and someday we will get slower and slower until our body expires.

Paul told the Christians in Ephesus to make the most of their time because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:16). The Greek word for "time" here does not mean chronological time (like a clock) but period time (like an allotted period). God's already numbered your days. You won't live one second shorter or longer than He's already determined (Ps 139:16). That means you have one life to live and then it's over.

You don't have much time. Don't waste this life God has given you. Maximize it for God's glory because the battery will soon go out.
