Bring Your Sword
And when you must close the Bible and go to work, do not leave the Bible on your desk, but carry it with you in your mind and heart the rest of the day. You need His Word throughout the day every bit as much as you needed it in the morning when you read it. When you go to work you walk on the battlefield. When you go to school, on vacation or even to church, you are on the battlefield. The battlefield is at your desk early in the morning and late at night. The battlefield is in your car when you drive, on the field when you play, in the gym when you run, and in your bed before you sleep. No matter where you go, you cannot escape the battlefield because the battlefield is in your heart.
Satan does not want your money. What use what that be to him? He does not want your fame, your talents, your looks. What benefit could he find with these? Satan wants just one thing: your soul. If you are washed by the blood of the lamb and sealed in Jesus, then he knows he cannot take your soul, but he will tempt you to defile it. He wants to see you fall, to see you curse God, to see you give up, lose heart, and forsake all that you know to be true. But you will not have it for you fight the Lord’s battle!
What does this mean? This means that you must bring your weapon, the sword of the Spirit, with you wherever you go. Does the boxer use his boxing gloves in the training room but take them off for the fight? Does the soldier practice his aim on the firing range, but leave his weapon behind when he marches to the front lines? You need the Word of God every second of every minute of every hour of every day.
