Why Called "Divide the Word"?
The name comes from Paul’s instruction to the young pastor Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” “Accurately handling” comes from a root Greek word meaning, “to cut straight” or “divide straight.” We are convinced that every level of ministry training in the local church must start with accurate and sometimes laborious study (2 Tim 2:15) and communication (2 Tim 4:2) of the sixty-six books of the Bible. One cannot do ministry right if He doesn’t know the God he serves and he cannot know the God he serves unless he knows the book God wrote. The Word is our foundation for everything we know about the trinitarian God, man’s nature, and ministry.
