Standing in the checkout line at Lowe's hardware store, I overheard an ear-catching conversation between two employees.

"I told him, 'You can't change it. If you're gay, that's who you are,'" said a young man.

"He's ridiculous" said a woman, probably in her mid forties. "Sexual orientation is the way we are and it's unfair to tell someone he can change that."

I knew if any time was the time to jump in, now was it. "This sounds like an interesting place to work!" I observed. They laughed and then I asked, "So what is your guys' view of homosexuality?"

"You can't change it," said the guy.

"Do you think sex with animals is wrong?" I asked.

"Well, yes," said the woman.

"Why?"

"Because you don't have their persmission," she replied.

"How do you know that? How do you know they don't like it?"

"Well, I guess we don't."

"Now correct me if I'm mistaken here, but it seems you've created an absolute standard based on information you don't even know to be true."

"I see your point!" she chuckled."

"What about sex with children?" I asked. "Do you believe that pedophilia is wrong too?"

"Yea, that's wrong said the guy."

"But why?" I pressed.

"Because it's psychologically damaging to the child," said the woman.

"How do you know it's psychologically damaging to the child? How do you know it's not healthy for the child?"

"Well, I guess we don't know that for sure."

"I want you to know that I have nothing against homosexuals as human beings. They are sinners just like I am. But your reasons for approving homosexuality yet rejecting bestiality and pedophilia seem to be arbitrary. But as a Christian, I have a reason for believing these things. I believe that an all-wise God created us in His image, making us like Him in many ways, and that this all-wise God came up with the idea of sex and marriage Himself, and designed it to be between one man and one woman.

"A single look at the anatomy of a man and a woman should tell us that it's only natural for a man and a woman to marry and mate. But any doctor could tell you that the orifice used for sodomy is designed for things to exit it, not for entry."

As I left the lady said, "Thank you for talking with us."

"Thank you for talking with me," I replied. "And I'd love to continue this conversation at a future time."

"We'll do that," said the guy.
