Gender Distinction and Equality in Christ

Many have raised the flag of Galatians 3:28 to support women as pastors and women teaching men.

In Galatians 3:28, Paul writes, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." If Paul's statement that there is neither "male nor female" means that there is no gender dinstinction for roles in the home and church, then to be consistent, we must also believe that there is no ethinic distinction between Jews and Gentiles.

But the context of Galatians 3 is salvation, not church roles. In Christ we are all equal, whether prince or pauper, man or woman. Equality in Christ does not blur the roles God laid out for men and women. Nor do role dinstinctions imply inequality. The Son of God is equal to God the Father. He is not one iota less God than His Father. But at the same time He holds a different role. He submits to the Father at all times and always does the will of His Father.
