Just Ask the Question!
Why will even the shiest of men find the guts to pop the question to the one he longs to marry?
Because at the end of the day, what we love most determines our actions, no matter what our personality or childhood.
Yesterday I jogged by four guys walking down a trail. It would have been perfectly natural to stop and say, "Can I ask you an interesting question?" What's the worst that could have happened? They could say no. Is that such a big deal? Considering how we as humans detest rejection, it wouldn't feel particularly good, but when did my feelings become more important than men's souls?
I bravely made up some excuse in my head and ran on. The conviction was so great that when I walked into the gym later that day I said, "God bring me someone to witness to and I'll be obedient this time." God never fails to answer that prayer! A guy walked up to me and asked if he could "work in" with the barbell I was using. That means take turns in workout sets. We started talking and what began as a request turned into a fast friendship.
Before I left, I sent up as silent prayer for help and said, "Tim, may I ask you an interesting question?"
"Sure."
"You drove a car to get here, right?"
"Yea."
"If on your way home a semi came around the corner and took you out, and you died and stood before God, and God said, 'Tim, why should I let you into heaven?' what would you say?"
Tim trusted his monthly confession to get him into heaven but admitted that he was very insecure even about this. We talked about God's law and gospel for a full five minutes. As I left he said, "Thank you for sharing that. I sincerely appreciate it."
Just as the question and watch God bless you.
